The importance of family photography.

Any family photographer will tell you about the importance of having photographs taken throughout your life. And it is not just because it’s our business, it’s because we really care about protecting people’s stories.

In the fast-paced world we live in, time honestly seems to slip away so quickly, carrying with it those everyday moments that make up the foundations of our lives. Family photography is a really powerful tool in helping you to preserve these fleeting moments and allowing you to relive your memories throughout your day, as you walk down the stairs seeing your photographs hung on the wall to opening the fridge with a polaroid stuck under a magnet.

  • Family photography freezes moments in time, creating an narrative of growth, laughter, and experiences. From the family celebrations to the everyday routines, these snapshots serve as a beautiful reminder of family life.

  • As cheesy as it is to say it, life is a “journey” marked by milestones, big and small. Whether it's a baby's first steps, a graduate's proud moment, or the diamond anniversary of a marriage, family photography gives you the opportunity to capture these milestones, instantly turning them into cherished keepsakes.

  • While some of us may feel a little uncomfortable in front of the camera, the simple act of making time for a family photoshoot together, shows how much it means to you to protect your stories during that moment of time in your life. And that alone, provides an opportunity to bond and share that moment.

  • Today's moments are tomorrow's memories. Family photography allows us to encapsulate the present, freezing moments in time that might otherwise be forgotten. Looking back at these photos can bring with it a flood of emotions, highlighting the beauty of the present and the nostalgia of the past.

  • Every single photograph tells a story, weaving together the threads of generations. Family photographs become a legacy, passed down from one generation to the next. It's an investment in the present and a gift for the future — imagine being able to hand down a treasure trove of memories allowing them to be explored and cherished by generations to come.

And all of this is exactly what I provide within my family photography packages across the South East of England (& beyond).

Photographs are not much good on your phone in the long term. They need to physically be in your hands, on your walls, on the sideboard.

It is why the concept of “stories for generations” was born.

Every single one of my family & newborn photography packages all include fine art prints as standard. I don’t do a “digital only” package as I don’t want to just add more photos to an already overwhelmed phone memory.

And here is the extra special part…

I don’t just give you one set of prints. I give you two.

The first set is for the right now, to hold, to gift, to hang up on the wall. To look at and enjoy every day.

The second set is for the future. These photographs are packaged up and they are for you to keep safe, store away and hand down to your children, asking that they do the same, keeping your memories safe for generations.

Through stories for generations, I am helping families start their own legacy boxes, filled with photos of family life as it was in that moment in time, documented, time stamped and stored away for safekeeping. Until the day comes for you to give your most precious memories to your children.

People of the future want to know the story of their past, their family heritage, the stories that their great grandmother or grandfather always told, the faces of the loved ones that once were.

And what a beautiful reminder it will also be for you to have when your back starts to ache and your knees start to creak, the contents of your legacy box patiently gathering dust under your bed waiting for the day you say - lets go back in time again!

And yes a photograph is just one part of your story. But what a beautiful part it is.

If you would like to book one of my stories for generations packages, please get in touch below and I can send you a guide all about my family photoshoots and how we can start building your legacy.
